Research Officer - Respiratory Biobank

This post is fixed term/secondment for 2 years from commencement date to meet the needs of the service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Officer to support the Cardiff and Vale Research Delivery Team with the Respiratory Biobank. The post holder will be working closely with respiratory colleagues based in the All-Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre, as well as with the biobank teams based in Cardiff University and other identified clinical areas in UHW to approach patients, obtain informed consent, and obtain biobank samples to support clinical trials developments and biobanking capabilities. This opportunity is a patient facing clinical role, potentially spanning across multiple clinical areas in both UHL and UHW, and requires an applicant with excellent communication and organisational skills to meet the clinical, administrative and patient-facing needs of the role.

Main duties of the job

The post is being offered as a 0.5WTE, 18.75 hours/week (working days/hours to be negotiated on appointment, with requirements for post holder to attend morning clinics on a Monday and potentially Tuesday in UHL), for 2 years fixed term or secondment considered.

The post is supported by VPAG funding to increase capacity and capability for commercial clinical trials, and increase the biobank offerings for the advancement of research within commercial and non-commercial industries, opening opportunities for patients to take part in clinical trials and increase access to new innovative and pioneering treatments.

The NHS R&D Departments led by a R&D Director provide local services for research support and facilitates the sponsoring and hosting of studies within in each UHB. Part of this service includes a NHS research delivery team consisting of Research Nurses, Research Officers and Administrators, employed by NHS organisations to support the delivery of high quality health and social care studies. The Research Officer will be a part of these NHS research delivery teams.
