Position Details

Background

The Centre for Care is a flagship multi‑disciplinary centre funded by ESRC with partners University of Sheffield, three charities and Office for National Statistics. The School of Social Policy and Society is a partner and seeks a research fellow for the Care Data Infrastructure team.

Role Summary

The post holder is the primary researcher on the Care Data Infrastructure team, working under Professor Matt Bennett. Responsibilities include applying cutting‑edge data analytics to administrative and client‑level data to inform evidence‑based decision making and to understand health inequalities within the care system. The role requires experience in R or Stata, advanced statistical methods, data linkage, data cleaning and high‑quality research writing.

Main Duties
  • Develop research objectives and proposals, individually or jointly.
  • Analyse administrative and panel datasets using advanced quantitative methods.
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding.
  • Disseminate findings through publications, seminars and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop new quantitative models and visualisations.
  • Manage and administer research activities and support staff as needed.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusive working culture.
Person Specification
  • Higher degree in economics, health economics, statistics, social policy or related discipline with training in advanced quantitative methods.
  • High level quantitative analytical ability, including large‑scale panel data.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex information clearly.
  • Fluency in advanced quantitative modelling techniques and ability to develop new ones.
  • Resource management and effective utilisation of resources.
  • Experience in management and administration processes.
  • Planning and organising skills for research projects.
  • Co‑ordination with others to avoid duplication of effort.
  • Knowledge of Equality Act 2010 and commitment to equality and diversity in practice.
