Opportunity

(Fixed-term until 31 March 2028)

This post represents an exciting opportunity for a committed team member to join the Astrophysics Research Centre at Keele University, School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Role

We wish to appoint a Post‑Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) starting as soon as possible, to conduct research in theoretical stellar astrophysics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on 3D hydrodynamic simulations of massive stars and theoretical stellar astrophysics for the STFC-funded project entitled “Synergetic 321D modelling of SN, NS and BH progenitors”.
  • Take responsibility for the component related to 3D‑1D modelling of stellar interiors, including a range of computer simulations focused on improving convection modelling in stellar evolution.
  • Produce next‑generation progenitor models of SN, NS and BHs, building synergy between 3D and 1D stellar modelling.
  • Contribute to code development, including GPU porting, and be encouraged to develop an independent research programme and leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with BRIDGCE consortium members such as Prof Alex Murphy (Edinburgh), Prof Alison Laird (York), Prof Jorick Vink (Armagh) and SHYNE team collaborators (e.g. Prof Dave Arnett, Arizona, US).
Qualifications
  • PhD (or expected completion of a PhD) in theoretical stellar astrophysics or a related area, with proven research experience.
  • Experience in 3D hydrodynamic simulations of stars, or stellar evolution modelling, or theoretical work on stellar convection, rotation or magnetic fields is highly desirable.
Appointment Details

The appointment will be made for up to 25 months, with the latest end date of 31 March 2028.
