Job description

Record and knowledge of NBFI client base. Personal competencies: strategic thinker with strong commercial judgement and client focus. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and mentor junior colleagues. High level of integrity, ownership, and commitment to ING's Orange Code behaviours.

Responsibilities
  • Client Relationship Management: Lead and grow strategic relationships with priority FI clients, acting as primary coverage banker. Develop and execute client strategies, annual relationship plans, and origination pipelines. Represent ING in senior client interactions, including C‑suite engagements and strategic reviews.
  • Origination & Execution: Drive origination across Lending, Transaction Services, Financial Markets, and Advisory. Lead deal teams through credit processes, commercial green‑light committees, and execution phases. Identify cross‑sell opportunities and coordinate with product specialists and global offices.
  • Strategic Contribution: Contribute to sector strategy, including private markets initiatives, ESG integration, and RWA optimisation. Support internal governance development, pipeline management (e.g. Salesforce), and sector‑wide collaboration. Mentor junior bankers and contribute to talent development and organisational health initiatives.
  • Risk & Compliance: Ensure adherence to ING's risk appetite and compliance standards. Oversee KYC and CDD processes for managed clients, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

Department Overview

The Financial Institutions team manages ING’s relationships with key financial institution clients globally. As a multi‑product coverage unit, we are fully integrated with product, risk, and network teams to deliver strategic, solution‑driven origination and execution across the full suite of ING’s capabilities. This role sits within the UK Financial Institutions team, part of ING’s sector coverage organisation, and focuses on banks, insurers, and non‑bank financial institutions headquartered in the UK.

Candidate Profile

Qualification / Education

  • Essential: University degree required.
  • Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications (e.g. CFA, MBA).

Experience / Knowledge

  • Essential: Minimum 5–9 years in financial institutions coverage or related banking roles. Proven track record in managing complex client relationships and executing multi‑product transactions.
