A veterinary practice in North West London is seeking a motivated Head RVN or aspiring Head RVN to join their expanding team. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, and may have clinical coaching experience. Responsibilities include running nurse clinics and completing Schedule 3 procedures. The role offers a competitive salary of £40,000 Pro Rata and various benefits including bonus opportunities, personal CPD funding, and a flexible rota, fostering a positive workplace environment.
Are you a Head RVN looking for a new challenge, or an experienced RVN ready to step into a Head Nurse position? If so, this could be your perfect next step.
Friern Barnet Vets for Pets, a friendly and progressive small animal practice in North West London, is seeking a motivated Head RVN (or aspiring Head RVN) to join our expanding team. We pride ourselves on high clinical standards, exceptional team support, and a genuinely collaborative working environment. If you enjoy running nurse clinics, coaching students and getting hands‑on with procedures such as a scale and polish, this is the practice for you.
"As a student nurse my team are continuously encouraging and supporting my learning, allowing me to develop my clinical skills. I feel like an appreciated and respected member of the team" – Alice, Student Vet Nurse
Friern Barnet Vets for Pets has grown significantly over the past three years. Our practice owners, Roger and Jonathan, bring more than 30 years of experience, and our Head Vet Rayyan is currently undertaking a Dermatology Certificate. Our current team includes 3.5 vets, 1 RVN, 2 SVNs, 1 VCA and our practice manager, supported by visiting peripatetic orthopaedic surgeons and an ultrasonographer.
We are proud of our purpose‑built surgery, equipped with a full in‑house lab, ultrasound facilities, digital X‑ray and species‑specific kennel areas. We also have an exciting practice rebrand planned for later this year. Conveniently located within Friern Bridge Retail Park, we offer ample onsite parking and excellent public transport connections across London and the South East via the nearby New Southgate overground and Arnos Grove underground stations.
This is a full‑time role of 40 hours per week, including one Saturday in three with time off in lieu. There is no out‑of‑hours work, ensuring a healthy work‑life balance – something we value highly.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who brings enthusiasm and a lead‑by‑example approach. Experience as a clinical coach would be an advantage, although we are equally happy to support someone keen to train in that role. You will be working closely with our experienced Head Vet Rayyan, alongside our long‑standing Practice Manager, Petra, who has been part of the Friern Barnet family for a decade. Together, they are committed to fostering a positive, supportive and happy team environment, as the foundation for delivering outstanding service to our clients and their pets.
Your role will be varied and engaging, involving clinical coaching for our student veterinary nurses, running nurse clinics such as obesity, diabetic and behavioural consultations, carrying out Schedule 3 procedures including dental scale and polish, and undertaking routine tasks such as second vaccinations and post‑operative checks. You will also play a key part in the ongoing development of the practice and the wider nursing team.
