Job summary

A leading health organization in North Wales seeks an enthusiastic Staff Nurse for Fleming Ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The ward specializes in respiratory medicine, offering opportunities for professional growth and development. Job description

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic Staff Nurse to join Fleming Ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Fleming Ward is a 29‑bedded Medical ward that specialises in respiratory medicine.

We have great education and development opportunities focussing on both acute and chronic respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, pulmonary embolism and interstitial lung disease. Fleming Ward is supported by the Ward Consultants and Respiratory Specialists Nurses. Further support is offered from the Lung Cancer Specialist Nurses and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team. Skills and competencies can be developed within the care and management of chest drains both under water seal and suction), assisting the medical team with Fibrinolysis and Plurodesis procedures and also working closely with the oxygen assessment team when patients require long term oxygen at home.

Fleming ward also boasts a close relationship with our respiratory high care unit, Acton Ward which provides care to patients who require Acute Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV), Domiciliary NIV and Domiciliary CPAP. Opportunities to rotate into this area will be offered during the supernumerary stage of employment.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required (dependent on level of experience) to take charge of a group of patients/clients with the guidance and supervision of the person with continuing responsibility/ Nurse in charge.

To assess the patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in order to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.

To ensure the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high quality service for the patients and clients.

To maintain patients nursing records to ensure information is accurate and up to date and to ensure that patients and carers/relatives are involved in the planning and delivery of care.

To take a proactive role in the management of risk. i.e. risk assessments, reporting incidents and near misses.

To undertake all reasonable precautions for a safe and secure environment for self and others in accordance with Health and Safety legislation reporting any areas of concern to the Nurse in Charge.

With the relevant experience act as a supervisor , mentor or assessor for students or Healthcare support workers and develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to development of others.

To maintain active status on NMC Register Act in accordance with NMC Code and guiding documents.
