Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing competent nursing care based on the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, care coordination, teaching, and health promotion and evaluation. The RN demonstrates professional standards of practice and performance, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. Clinical knowledge and skills must meet the standards required by specific clinical areas. A BSN or MSN degree is preferred. Specific certifications and requirements vary by specialty: Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year; Emergency Care ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved chemotherapy and biotherapy course within 6 months; Women's Care (Perinatal) NRP within 6 months; Peds PALS within 6 months; all direct care RNs must have BLS within 90 days.

Located in Norfolk, VA, Sentara Leigh Hospital is a 274-bed acute care facility established in 1903 and relocated in 1977. The hospital underwent renovations in 2016, including new patient towers, an atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. It features a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital, accredited Primary Stroke Center, Magnet designation for nursing excellence, and specializes in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity, and general surgery.
