Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic Paediatric Neurology team at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. We are inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for a full-time Consultant post in Paediatric Neurology, with a special interest in epilepsy. This role is primarily based at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and the Ryegate Children’s Centre, offering a stimulating and supportive environment for clinical practice and professional development. The successful candidate will join a supportive neurology consultant team, contributing to acute and general neurology (via a consultant‑of‑the‑week model), outpatient clinics, and regional tertiary epilepsy services‑including pre‑surgical evaluations. While expertise in epilepsy is preferred, other subspecialty interests will be considered in line with service needs. Reporting into the Clinical Director, Medicine Care Group, some of your responsibilities will include:

Responsibilities
  • Liaison: to work with the Trust's management team to make optimum use of clinical and other resources in order to contribute towards providing a high level of care and meeting all national and local targets.
  • Teaching: take part in the training programme for undergraduate and post‑graduates.
  • Research & Audit: to take an active part in local, regional and national audit as appropriate.
  • CPD: the Trust is committed to supporting the professional and personal development of consultant colleagues.
  • Cover: take a share in providing on‑call consultant cover and will be required to provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Recognised higher specialised training programme or equivalent in paediatrics with Higher Specialist Training in Neurology
  • Good clinical experience in Paediatrics and Paediatric Neurology
  • GMC registration
  • Interviews expected to be held on Friday 23rd January 2026.

Note that Sheffield Children’s uplift pay to meet the Real Living Wage, which is £12.60 per hour.
