Band 5 Theatre Recovery Nurse/Operating dept Practitioner

We have 54 hours available in our Recovery Department. Full time and part time hours will be considered.

Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to join our dynamic Theatre Team at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle; the city at the heart of the Lake District.

We are currently recruiting Band 5 Recovery Practitioners (Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner) to work in our Recovery Suite which provides perioperative care for both adults and children in the following specialities:

  • Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Urology
  • Upper GI and Colorectal
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Vascular
  • Head and Neck
  • Ophthalmology

We provide exemplary planned one to one care for patients who have had general or regional anaesthetic. This care varies from patients following the day surgery pathway to patients following enhanced care pathways for major surgery.

This post is not only suitable for experienced Registered Nurses/Operating Department Practitioners, but it is an exciting start to any newly qualified RN/ODPs career. A preceptorship period is offered to all successful applicants, but our Trust has a dedicated one year preceptorship programme offering ten study days during this period to enhance any newly qualified RN/ODPs knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

The main role of this post is to provide excellent safe post-operative/anaesthetic care following the NCIC values and policies for all patients undergoing surgery within the Theatre Department.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programs of care in partnership with the patient and the multidisciplinary team.

The Recovery Practitioner will carry out post-operative care in any of our three recovery areas; Main Theatre, the Elective Care Suite (Day Unit) and the Maternity Unit.

The post holder will demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
