Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples from patients according to Trust policies.
  • Generate blood request forms from ICE previously stored by clinical staff.
  • Ensure safe delivery of blood samples to Pathology in an agreed time.
  • Process blood samples using the Glucose Monitoring Meter.
  • Carry out procedures for control of infection as per Trust policies.

To maintain a high standard of patient care under the direction of the Phlebotomy Manager, providing patient reception duties as well as admin support.

Main duties of the job

To maintain a high standard of patient care under the direction of the Phlebotomy Manager in collecting blood samples from patients.

Job responsibilities
  • To collect blood samples from patients in accordance with agreed Trust policies.
  • To generate blood request forms from ICE previously stored by medical/clinical staff.
  • To ensure that blood samples are delivered safely and efficiently to Pathology in an agreed time.
  • Process patients blood samples using the Glucose Monitoring Meter and analysing results.
  • To ensure that procedures for the control of infection are carried out according to Trust policies.
  • Be aware of off-duty planning and the need to meet service requirements.
  • Attend appropriate mandatory training sessions.
  • Attend departmental meetings when necessary.
