Radiotherapy Technology Equipment Manager (XR08)

Weare seeking an exceptional Radiotherapy Equipment Manager to lead theengineering management of our advanced radiotherapy systems. This is a critical leadership role ensuringthe reliability, safety, and performance of equipment that supportslife-saving cancer treatments.

Oversee the maintenance,calibration, and lifecycle management of 12 linear accelerators, andassociated radiotherapy technology.

Closely collaborate with othermembers of the multidisciplinary clinical team to ensure the high quality,timely delivery of cancer care.

Lead a team of engineeringtechnical staff, fostering a culture of quality, innovation and continuousimprovement.

Work with hospital estates staff,equipment suppliers and other healthcare scientists ensuring compliance withregulatory standards and optimising treatment delivery.

Drive strategic planning forhealthcare technology replacement, adoption, upgrade and evolution.

Youwill be an experienced clinical engineer or clinical engineering technologistwith graduate level education and strong leadership skills. You will be committed to advancing the safeand effective use of healthcare technology to enhance the quality of cancercare.

Main duties of the job

Workingas a key manager in the multidisciplinary clinical oncology service, you willbe responsible for ensuring radiotherapy equipment and associated resourcesare correctly specified, constructed, installed and maintained. As well as managing technical staff, youwill be responsible for technical activity carried out on the equipment,coordinating the work with other clinical and scientific activity.

Duringthe course of your work, you will take responsibility for extremely complexand very high value medical and scientific equipment (up to £2 millioneach). Often the nature of the workwill mean that you make decisions that have significant clinical impact andhigh financial risk. As a consequenceof this, quality assurance and clinical risk management is a key aspect ofthis role.

RadiotherapyTechnology Services (RTS) provide equipment management and technical servicesto users of radiotherapy equipment, associated medical equipment andassociated computer systems as well as providing technical services toclinical and scientific research and innovation across the field of cancertherapy.

RTSstaff are grouped by into three operational teams: computer services,electronics and mechanical engineering with a fourth operational teamproviding technical services such as training management, operationallogistics and special project management.Technical services are normally delivered through multidisciplinarygroups where group members are drawn from a combination of thesesub-specialism teams.

Job responsibilities

Professional& Managerial:

Thejobholder manages and coordinate technical activity on radiotherapy equipmentthroughout the equipment lifecycle, through site preparation, delivery,installation, commissioning, clinical use, decommissioning and disposal.

Thejobholders develops, leads and manages a comprehensive system to providemedical equipment management services across a wide range of complexequipment and, working with other managers and team leaders organises RTSstaff to deliver this service.

Thejobholder is responsible for the line management of engineering technicalteams including the recruitment and selection of staff.

Thejobholder works with relevant hospital departments, managed equipment serviceproviders and other external organisations to develop and maintain a range ofservice contracts providing technical services to the radiotherapy equipment.

Thejobholder is operationally responsible for the technical aspects of radiationoncology treatment equipment, associated resources and services, spare parts,test equipment and accommodation.

Thejobholder directs and overseas the project management of the complextechnical programmes required to enable clinical use of new radiotherapyequipment and systems. These projectsinvolve coordinating activity of building sub-contractors, hospital estatesstaff, equipment manufacturers, RTS technical teams, clinical scientists andradiotherapy managers and they cover site preparation, equipment delivery,installation, technical acceptance, commissioning, and clinical preparation.

Thejobholder ensures all technical activity complies with applicable standards,guidelines, policies, and legislation.

Thejobholder administers the radiotherapy equipment maintenance delegatedportions of relevant budgets.

MedicalEquipment Management:

Thejobholder is operationally responsible for equipment technical activityincluding installation work, the diagnosis, repair and resolution ofproblems, planned maintenance, equipment modification and equipment upgrades.

Wheretechnical activity is assessed to be very complex or high risk the jobholderwill adopt the lead role in equipment maintenance activity on highly complexradiation therapy equipment and associated medical equipment. Such work involves diagnosis, repair andresolution of problems or equipment modification, followed by technicalverification and clinical validation activity including equipment qualityassurance and calibration activity.

Thejobholder maximises equipment uptime through monitoring of operationalperformance and the development and implementation of major proactive andreactive maintenance work.

Thejobholder liaises with RTS technical teams, equipment manufacturers, managedequipment service providers and other external contractors to ensure activityis coordinated with radiotherapy managers, clinical scientists,radiographers, other equipment users.

Thejobholder organises the provision of direct technical support providingexpert advice and guidance to radiotherapy managers, key trainers, and usersof the technology.

Thejobholder contributes to major radiotherapy equipment projects by providingexpert technical services to a team of multidisciplinary professionalsincluding building project managers, architects, equipment manufacturers andbuilding contractors.

Thejobholder ensures radiotherapy equipment and associated resources arecorrectly specified, constructed, installed and maintained.

Thejobholder ensures all radiotherapy technical activity complies with thequality management system (QMS) and the associated quality policy, thequality manual, related procedures and work instructions.

Qualifications
  • Qualifications - Essential CriteriaA degree in clinical technology (engineering) or an equivalent scientific or engineering degree and extensive, relevant experience backed up with formal training.
  • Registration as a Clinical Scientist, Clinical Technologist or Healthcare Science Practitioner.
  • Specialist advanced training in operation and maintenance of highly complex radiotherapy technology including linear accelerators, orthovoltage therapy units, radiotherapy simulators and CT scanners
  • Specialised radiotherapy equipment manufacturer specific training courses and qualifications at an advanced level.
  • Training and practical experience in quality systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.
