Job description
Overview

Providing a mammographic service cross trust at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham hospitals. Apply specialist knowledge to carry out mammography examinations to a high standard, ensuring patient care and comfort are maintained at all times. Treat all patients with empathy to encourage cooperation during examinations, and liaise with colleagues, patients and visitors in a professional manner to promote good relations. Demonstrate understanding of IR(ME)R and Health and Safety legislation to maintain a safe working environment. Continue to participate in and provide a general radiographic service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a high level of patient care and empathy, including dealing with distressed patients.
  • Apply specialist knowledge to mammography lists and adapt technique to individual patients while maintaining care and comfort.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with all colleagues, patients and visitors in a professional manner to promote good relations.
  • Apply local instructions relating to IR(ME)R and Health and Safety legislation to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Continue to participate in and provide a general radiographic service.
  • Supervise Assistant Practitioners, helpers and student Radiographers; verify examinations and check the work carried out by them when required.
  • Participate in out-of-hours work and on-call/rotational shifts.
  • Be proficient in the use of department computer systems.
Qualifications
  • Qualified BSc Diagnostic Radiographer with HPC registration (trainee mammographer role; no minimum years of qualification required).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Completion of a Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) in Mammography at a chosen University during training, with practical mammography training in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Must be capable of working unsupervised and single-handed when required.
  • Evidence of driving to three base sites (Hexham, Wansbeck and North Tyneside General hospitals) to provide a mammography service for one-stop breast clinics and annual mammogram program.
  • Agenda for Change Annex 20 development of professional roles; progression to next pay band upon completion of competencies, without another application.
  • Full UK DBS check as required; DBS payment may be deducted from salary if applicable.
