Overview

Quantity Surveyor — Liverpool (L24)

Salary: £56,565 inc car allowance (approx. 6700) plus fuel card. Profit share last year 14%, private health, pension, life, etc.

Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their Liverpool office (Speke). They value honesty, integrity and teamwork. You’ll join a dedicated commercial and operational team that specialises in painting, decorating and associated planned refurbishment works in the Liverpool area, working for clients across sectors including hospitals, higher education and social housing.

They are seeking a proactive Quantity Surveyor who can work with direct labour teams, manage timesheets, and contribute to tendering, estimating and refurbishments. Experience in painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, civils or new builds will be transferable, along with tendering and estimating.

Main customer base: Social housing and councils/local authorities, housing associations. Experience in these sectors will be beneficial.

Role scope includes working on established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious public, residential, retirement living, commercial and education sector clients.

Responsibilities
  • Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks.
  • Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
  • Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
  • Build strong client and supplier relations to discuss variations and contract progress and seek mutual solutions.
  • Complete and analyse weekly site reports, ensuring cost information is included (labour rates, performance, budgets, value, progress, quality and safety).
What you will bring as Quantity Surveyor
  • You will be inquisitive, organised and honest, a genuine 'people person' who thrives on collaboration with clients, trade teams and colleagues, fostering a 'working together' environment and long‑term relationships.
  • Proven experience in a similar estimating and surveying role, with management of projects from tender/estimating through to final account.
  • Experience managing a value of works up to £3 million annually.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with an eye for identifying business opportunities, negotiations and better gains. You should describe yourself as commercial, analytical, and accurate.
Requirements and experience
  • Experience in tendering, estimating and refurbishments; ability to work with direct labour teams (timesheets, etc.)
  • Background in painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, civils or new builds would be transferable
  • Experience in social housing, councils/local authorities or housing associations is advantageous
  • Proven track record in cost control and contract administration
