Quality Manager for Decontamination and Sterile Services

The Decontamination and Sterile Services Quality Manager is a senior, specialist position within the Clinical Support Division at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance across the Decontamination and Sterile Services Departments at both Chelsea & Westminster and West Middlesex Hospital sites.

The postholder will provide expert leadership in all aspects of quality management within the decontamination and sterile services function. This includes the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of robust quality management systems, ensuring full alignment with ISO 13485 and other relevant regulatory standards. The Quality Manager will be expected to work independently and unsupervised in all areas of the specialty, applying advanced technical and scientific judgement to guarantee safe, effective, and compliant service delivery at all times.

This role is critical to the Trust's ability to deliver world‑class patient care, as decontamination and sterile services underpin the safe operation of theatres, wards, and clinical departments. The Quality Manager will be a key figure in maintaining the Trust's reputation for excellence, supporting its strategic objectives, and ensuring that all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.

Education & Qualifications
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent level of experience
  • Postgraduate degree in Decontamination or equivalent level of knowledge through applied courses.
  • Chartered Member of the Institute of Decontamination Sciences
Experience
  • Significant working experience within the Decontamination environment
  • Managing staff
Skills & Knowledge
  • Highly specialist decontamination knowledge acquired through ongoing specialised training or experience
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and their implementation
  • Knowledge of relevant medical devices used within the department
  • Understands and is able to participate in the planning of both day‑to‑day procedures and processes and troubleshooting, supporting the Decontamination and SSD Service Manager
  • Proven ability to supervise and train staff
  • Be able to understand, provide and receive data of a complex technical nature
  • Excellent communication skills combined with the ability to communicate potentially highly complex issues with colleagues in an effective and positive manner
  • Ability to undertake audit and report on complex decontamination investigations analysing the outcome of equipment testing or procedures and their clinical significance to patients where a range of options may be involved
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD
