Quality Inspector

Location: Southampton
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Due to continued growth, our client, a well-established precision manufacturing business based in Southampton, is seeking a Quality Inspector to support its quality and inspection function.

This is a hands‑on role focused on ensuring components and assemblies meet defined quality standards and customer requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with production and engineering teams, using a range of manual and advanced inspection equipment in a controlled manufacturing environment.

The Role

The Quality Inspector will be responsible for inspecting precision components and assemblies throughout the manufacturing process. Working from technical drawings, specifications and inspection plans, the role requires strong attention to detail and a thorough understanding of dimensional and visual inspection techniques.

This position would suit an experienced inspector with a background in precision engineering or manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dimensional inspection of components and assemblies to engineering drawings
  • Use of manual measuring equipment including:
    • Vernier callipers
    • Digital callipers
    • Micrometers (internal, external and depth)
    • Height gauges
    • Bore gauges
    • Thread gauges and plug gauges
  • Visual inspection of components for surface finish and workmanship
  • Operation of optical and profile measurement equipment, including shadow graphs / profile projectors
  • Use of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for dimensional verification
  • Use of portable measuring equipment such as Faro Arms or similar articulated measuring arms
  • Completion of inspection reports and quality documentation
  • Identification and recording of non-conformances
  • Supporting root cause investigations and corrective actions
  • Working to defined quality procedures and cleanliness standards
  • Liaising with production and engineering to resolve quality issues
  • Carrying out additional reasonable duties as directed by supervision
Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience in a Quality Inspector or inspection-based role
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances
  • Practical experience using a wide range of manual and electronic measuring equipment
  • A methodical approach with high attention to detail
  • Experience working in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
Desirable Experience
  • Experience programming or operating CMMs
  • Experience using Faro Arms or portable CMM equipment
  • Formal quality or engineering qualifications
  • Knowledge of ISO quality standards
