A well-established manufacturing business in Dagenham is seeking an experienced QSHE Systems Manager for a 12-month maternity cover. The role involves overseeing quality, safety, health, and environmental management systems, leading audits, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Ideal candidates will have experience in a QSHE leadership role, knowledge of ISO standards, and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels. This position requires strong communication and organisational skills, alongside a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a QSHE / Quality Systems leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Codes of Practice is essential.
  • Automotive quality auditing experience is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Business Management System in line with ISO standards.
  • Act as Lead Internal Auditor managing the internal audit programme.
  • Drive corrective and preventative actions to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and manage QSHE KPIs and report performance.

QSHE Systems Manager

FTC - 12 Month Maternity Cover

Location: Dagenham area

Salary: Circa £50k

Hours: Day shift (flexibility required as business needs evolve)

We represent a well-established manufacturing business based in the Dagenham area, currently undergoing an exciting period of growth and maturity. They are looking to appoint an experienced QSHE Systems Manager to take full ownership of their Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental management systems across the business. This is a senior, hands‑on role, reporting into the Senior Quality & Compliance Manager, and will suit someone who is equally comfortable leading audits, influencing stakeholders and getting involved at an operational level.

The Role

As QSHE Systems Manager, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and improving the company’s Business Management System (BMS), ensuring ongoing compliance with industry standards and certifications. You will lead all internal and external audits, act as the main point of contact for certification bodies and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Business Management System in line with ISO 9001, CoP, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • Act as Lead Internal Auditor, managing and delivering the internal audit programme
  • Manage all external audits, registrations and certifications, ensuring successful outcomes
  • Drive corrective and preventative actions and verify effective closure of non-conformances
  • Maintain quality manuals, policies and procedures, ensuring document control and relevance
  • Develop and manage QSHE KPIs and report performance to senior leadership
  • Deliver QSHE training to promote a strong safety and compliance culture
  • Conduct and oversee statutory inspections and assessments including Fire, PUWER and COSHH
  • Support manufacturing projects and NPI processes through structured audits
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean / Six Sigma principles
  • Carry out risk assessments and drive actions to reduce or eliminate risk
  • Work closely with internal teams, customers, suppliers and external bodies
About You
  • Proven experience in a QSHE / Quality Systems leadership role within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Codes of Practice (essential)
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 (highly advantageous)
  • Automotive quality auditing experience is essential
  • Strong understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
  • Confident leading audits and influencing cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable being hands‑on as well as strategic
  • Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office packages
Qualifications
  • Degree in Quality, Business, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (desirable)
  • Lead Auditor qualification (advantageous)

  • Travel to other company sites, suppliers and customers may be required, including occasional travel to Pontypool, Wales
