Pupil Wellbeing and Safeguarding Officer

Contract Type: Permanent, Term Time plus 5 days (38 weeks plus 5 days)

Salary: NJC Scale 6 SCP 18 (Pro-rata)

Working Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 37 hours per week 8.30am-4.30pm with 30 minutes lunch – 4pm finish on Friday

Millbrook Primary School and Nursery is a warm, inclusive community where every child is valued and supported to thrive. We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Pupil Wellbeing and Safeguarding Officer to join our team. This is a vital role in providing children with the best possible support at the earliest possible point, promoting pupil wellbeing and providing safeguarding support when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide children with the best possible support at the earliest possible point to promote wellbeing and resilience.
  • Offer targeted support and deliver evidence-based wellbeing support to individuals and small groups.
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting the DSL in safeguarding duties, referrals and record-keeping.
  • Support the SENCO with early identification of wellbeing and SEMH needs and coordinate referrals to external professionals.
  • Work closely with families to offer early help and strengthen home-school partnerships.
  • Contribute to whole-school systems and processes for wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Lead safe, structured, and engaging playtime provision for EYFS and KS1.
  • Liaise with external agencies to ensure holistic support for pupils and families.

  • Experience in a pastoral, wellbeing, or safeguarding role within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Knowledge of wellbeing and SEMH needs and early intervention strategies.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, caring approach to supporting pupils and families.
  • Committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Is proactive, flexible, and a strong team player.
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Is passionate about helping children achieve their full potential.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A relevant qualification in wellbeing, mental health, safeguarding or Level 3 TA/Cover Supervisor (desirable but not essential).
  • A good general standard of education including GCSE English and Maths to Grade C or equivalent.
  • Experience in a pastoral, wellbeing, or safeguarding role within an educational setting.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is essential.
