Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a practitioner to join the well-established Mental Health Liaison Team, which forms part of Newham’s Crisis Pathway. The team follows the principles of “Rapid Assessment Interface Discharge” which is a model of psychiatric liaison serving the Newham University Hospital including the Emergency Department and inpatient wards.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist mental health input, support and conduct full mental health assessments, and risk assessment & management plans for people that are referred to our team from the Emergency Department and general wards.

  • Current Professional Registration
  • ENB 998 or equivalent

Desirable criteria
  • Recognised post graduate qualifications in a specialist area of adult or older adult mental health
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Substantial post qualification experience in the field of adult and/or older adult
  • Previous experience at working at senior level
  • Previous experience at working autonomously
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary mental health team
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and of ensuring that nursing practice is culturally sensitive
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care, particularly in an acute care or older adult community setting
Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to promote the rights, responsibilities and recovery of adults and/or older adults with mental health problems
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of the key issues and priorities relating to the provision of liaison mental health services in an acute hospital for aged 16 years and over
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the expectations, pressures and demands of an acute inner city hospital, wards and Registered care homes
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of current legislation and policy pertaining to the provision of mental health services in all settings including the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, NHS and Care Act, 2014, Human Rights Act 1998
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge, expertise and practical experience of a full range of therapeutic nursing skills and approaches to people with mental health problems aged 16 years and above
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge, understanding and practical experience of risk assessment and risk management
