Job description

JOB TITLE: Property Lawyer / Paralegal REF: Surrey 122036 Pay rate: Up to £50.00 per hour PAYE, DOE Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 3 to 4 months Working Arrangement: Hybrid working, to be agreed with line manager

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Property Lawyer/Paralegal to provide high-quality legal advice and transactional support on all aspects of local authority property work, which may include acquisitions, disposals, leases, development agreements, and regeneration projects. You will work closely with colleagues across the Council, partner organisations, and external stakeholders to facilitate the effective delivery of property transactions and strategic land projects.

Key Responsibilities may include:
  • Managing your own caseload of commercial and residential property matters.
  • Advising on landlord and tenant issues, easements, wayleaves, licences, and property management.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, leases, and associated legal documents.
  • Supporting property and regeneration projects from inception to completion.
  • Providing clear, pragmatic legal advice to officers, members, and project teams.
  • Assisting with corporate property governance and ensuring compliance with local government law.
What the client is looking for:
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX).
  • Strong working knowledge of property law and local government legislation.
  • Ability to handle a varied and complex caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to build effective relationships across teams.
  • Experience in regeneration or development projects.
  • Knowledge of compulsory purchase, community asset transfers, or housing delivery schemes.
