Job summary

A leading pharmaceutical company in Hatfield is seeking a Project Technician for a 2-year FTC. In this role, you'll provide technical support across manufacturing and packaging, ensuring compliance with GMP standards while leading small engineering projects. The ideal candidate has relevant engineering qualifications, experience in regulated environments, and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities or engineering operations within a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of GMP and Good Engineering Practice (GEP).
  • EHS or project management qualifications desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support across manufacturing and packaging.
  • Deliver improvements to engineering systems and equipment reliability.
  • Lead small-scale engineering and continuous improvement projects.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and contractor management.
  • Ensure activities comply with GMP, GDP, EHS, and corporate quality standards.
  • Support commissioning, qualification, and validation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and review permits to work.

Job description

Cpl Life Sciences are looking for a Project Technician (initial 2 year FTC) to provide technical and facilities support within a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging site in Hertfordshire.

The Opportunity

You’ll play a key role in ensuring that site engineering, facilities, and production systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with GMP and industry standards. This position offers the chance to get hands‑on with complex technical challenges while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and equipment reliability.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide technical engineering support across manufacturing, packaging, and facilities areas.
  • Deliver improvements to engineering systems and equipment reliability.
  • Lead and support small‑scale engineering and continuous improvement projects.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, contractor management, and site shutdowns.
  • Ensure all activities are completed in line with GMP, GDP, EHS, and corporate quality standards.
  • Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments, method statements, and permits to work.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Time-served apprenticeship with City & Guilds and/or NVQ Level 3–4 in an engineering or building services discipline.
  • Experience supporting facilities or engineering operations within a pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GMP and Good Engineering Practice (GEP).
  • Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • EHS or project management qualifications (desirable but not essential).
