Join us as a Project Manager at our BUTEC site based at Kyle of Lochalsh, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.

Role Description

We provide a diverse range of services for the Royal Navy supporting the following: the signature acceptance trials of new ships and submarines; the operational trials of ships and submarines preparing for missions and overseas deployments assessing systems, optimising equipment and providing mission‑critical advice for command before deployment; leading developments of new signature systems and methodology; managing and delivering live underwater targets for ships and submarines to test systems and develop operational capability. The IDT directs work in the UK, the US and the Middle East as part of the daily drumbeat.

The role will involve managing projects for the IDT reporting to programme managers and senior project managers, taking responsibility for customer stakeholder relationship, developing follow on business and leading on overall delivery on‑site.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting, running and delivering projects on site.
  • Serve as main point of contact for team members who are not located on site.
  • Influence and support the autonomous operation of the underwater ranges.
  • Identify, plan and implement actions to positively engage parties with an interest in or influence over project outputs.
  • Effectively communicate as part of a two‑way interaction, using a range of techniques to ensure the received meaning matches the transmitted meaning.
Essential experience of the Project Manager
  • Project management experience, working on multiple complex projects and any one time.
  • Experience delivering complex projects while working as part of a team based out of separate locations.
  • Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders as well as the wider teams based at other sites.
  • Demonstrable capability to International Project Management Association Level C or D.
  • Previous experience working within defence or engineering preferable but not essential.
Essential qualifications for the Project Manager
  • Hold a project management qualification such as APM or PMQ.

This role is 37 hours per week based at Kyle of Lochalsh.

BUTEC (British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre) is a specialised facility focused on underwater testing and evaluation. It supports the development and assessment of various maritime systems including submarines, autonomous underwater vehicles and naval munitions. Working towards the advancement of underwater technology including innovations in sonar, navigation and communication systems in real‑world scenarios.
