Job description
Project Engineer - 6 to 12 month contract
Overview

An established infrastructure delivery partner is seeking a Project Engineer to support early‑stage development of water and wastewater network schemes under a long‑term regional utilities framework. This role focuses on front‑end project development — shaping scopes, identifying practical solutions, and ensuring schemes are structured for efficient and compliant delivery. Projects typically include pipeline renewals, network upgrades, asset interventions, and works within live operational environments. This is a technically hands‑on position suited to experienced civil engineers, site engineers, or site agents who are comfortable bridging the gap between site realities and project planning. The successful candidate will play a key role in translating operational, constructability, and safety constraints into deliverable project scopes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support early‑stage scoping, feasibility, and option development for clean water and/or wastewater network projects
  • Review surveys, asset records, and site data to inform practical engineering solutions
  • Contribute to outline designs, budget estimates, and high‑level programmes
  • Liaise with design teams, construction personnel, and supply chain partners to ensure coordinated development
  • Ensure proposed solutions are buildable, compliant, and aligned with operational requirements
  • Promote strong health & safety standards, ensuring statutory and framework compliance
  • Maintain technical reporting, risk assessments, and progress tracking documentation
  • Identify constructability risks and front‑end delivery challenges to support effective project management
Candidate Profile
  • Background in civil engineering with experience in water and/or wastewater network infrastructure
  • Experience in early‑stage project development, feasibility, or scheme definition
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and live operational constraints
  • Experience working within regulated utility or infrastructure frameworks advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of health & safety legislation and best practice in construction
  • Confident communicator with the ability to collaborate across technical and delivery teams
  • Proactive, self‑driven, and delivery‑oriented
Why Apply?
  • Long‑term framework opportunity with strong pipeline of secured work
  • Technical, solution‑focused role with minimal commercial or client‑facing pressure
  • Opportunity to work within a collaborative, delivery‑led infrastructure team
  • Engagement focused on practical engineering excellence and compliance
