Drive Excellence on a Major Infrastructure Project - Join Us as Project Director!

Due to an internal move, we're looking for a Project Director to join our Transportation team based in Tebay. Working at an early stage in the contract, you'll be responsible for building and developing a high‑performing team to deliver Major Projects as part of the M6 Lune Gorge scheme (value of work circa £350 million).

This project is being delivered in a collaborative environment with a strong digital agenda, alongside our client National Highways. The M6 Lune Gorge project is a key part of the Major Projects business portfolio within the highways sector.

Location: Tebay, Cumbria - agile working available; however, you will be required on site a minimum 4 days a week once main works commence.

Hours: Permanent, Full‑time, 45 hours per week – flexibility available, just let us know when we speak.

What will you be responsible for?

As Project Director, you'll lead client liaison, manage consultants and stakeholders, and oversee contracts, supply‑chain partners, and self‑delivery works on projects of this scale.

Your day‑to‑day will include:

  • Managing all phases of the project—from contract and budget negotiation to close‑out—ensuring adherence to all requirements and delivering customer care and business excellence.
  • Leading and developing a successful team and culture, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and collaborative working.
  • Coordinating technical consultants during the contract period as the operational point of contact.
  • Supporting the Commercial team with advice on construction methodology, programming, and staffing.
  • Resolving technical issues and ensuring work meets specification and Quality Assurance (QA) standards.
  • Implementing and complying with Kier's Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) policy, legal requirements, and best practice, including regular safety inspections.
  • Attending regular meetings to maintain clear communication, report progress, and address variations internally and externally.
What are we looking for?

This role of Project Director is great if you have:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, construction practices, and risk management.
  • Proven experience leading major infrastructure projects and managing high‑performing teams.
  • Previous experience of managing contracts, supply‑chain partners and self‑delivery works on projects of this nature.
  • Strong stakeholder management and client engagement skills.
