Job summary

A local government authority in Scotland is seeking an individual to assist in the development of an Environmental Justice Map. Overview

North Lanarkshire Council is delivering a funded initiative to develop an Environmental Justice Map, co-create with residents, and design 18 future projects to enhance nature networks and connectivity in urban open spaces. The project will culminate in a 10-year Greenspace Infrastructure Plan. Funding may be used to commission consultants to assist in various aspects of the project.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Programme Manager in working with communities, encouraging ideas and motivating engagement in the project to connect people with nature, particularly in areas where linkages are most challenging.
  • Support the consultation and design stage of the project, contributing to the development of vibrant, resilient and accessible greenspaces.
  • Collaborate with communities to prioritise investment and help design 18 future projects to enhance existing nature networks.
Qualifications and experience
  • Experience in community consultations and building volunteer enthusiasm to improve a local area, ideally in an environmental context.
  • Demonstrable skills in communication and project management, with experience in tender, procurement and contract development practices.
  • Knowledge of administering financial documents and transactions.
  • HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline; keen interest in nature-based solutions and adaptation planning.
  • Working knowledge of mapping software such as ArcGIS would be beneficial.
Requirements
  • Flexible approach to work with ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Current driving licence and ability to travel throughout North Lanarkshire.
  • Must become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member through Disclosure Scotland and obtain a satisfactory membership check prior to commencing.
Contract and funding

This role is temporary for 30 months and is supported by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
