Job Description

Project Delivery Professional (Navy Command HQ Secondment 2 Years)- Submarines

Full time

Portsmouth.

What you will be doing

The Navy needs our help; this is an opportunity to join a team of Submariners working for the Fleet Marine Engineering Officer - Submarines (FMEO-SM) who contribute directly to getting safe and capable Submarines to sea.

Your home base for this role will be the Navy Command Headquarters building on HMS Excellent Portsmouth. This is where the Navy Executive Committee (the 1st Sea Lords team) is based along with all directorates of the Navy including the Submarine Directorate of which you will be a part. There will be a need for travel to the SDA in Bristol and the Naval Base Clyde and Naval Base Devonport.

As a Project Delivery Professional working in this environment you will bring to bear a valued industrial perspective on critical issues that are hampering SM availability and degrading the lived experience of our target-rich environment. Your skills & experience will tailor the specific tasking you undertake and, following an initial period of support, you will be given free rein across the wider Defence if necessary to deliver tangible benefits.

An engineering background is preferred but only an appreciation and understanding is required; what is crucial is an inquisitive mind and a drive to make a difference.

Previous Rolls Royce secondees into this organisation have established a strong reputation for insight & delivery; in this role you will carry and contribute further to the esteem with which Rolls‑Royce is held right at the heart of the customer organisation.

In return for your contribution to the Royal Navy (in addition to the relocation package whilst in role) you will gain a unique insight into how the customer organisation works as well as forming a strong network amongst the Sailors and MOD Civil Servants; not only are these elements rare and indeed fascinating, but are of significant value for your future career with RR Submarines Ltd.

Responsibilities

You will be assigned improvement projects of a technical nature by the FMEO. Working largely independently but with help when asked you will need to form a network of stakeholders across the MOD and industry to deliver change. The ability to do this will rely on a technical understanding, project management skills and interpersonal skills. In an environment where change has previously taken months & years your ability to combine these skills will enable you to drive rapid change in comparison.

Why Rolls‑Royce

We will invest in your continuous learning and development and make sure you have access to a wide breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career and make a difference.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support, assistance and employee discounts.
