The Role:
Our client is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead and develop a team across multiple manufacturing areas. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on driving team performance, ensuring operational targets are achieved, and fostering a culture of fairness, consistency, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities of the Production Supervisor:

  • Supervise, lead, and develop the Production Team with fairness and consistency.
  • Ensure achievement of operational KPIs (e.g., on-time delivery, efficiency, absence, scrap, waste, overtime).
  • Manage resources, departmental expenditure, and production output against budgets and targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing culture (LEAN, Six Sigma, 5S).
  • Maintain compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and legislative requirements.
  • Oversee plant/equipment maintenance reporting.
  • Conduct staff appraisals, manage PDPs, training, grievances, and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, quality standards, and high housekeeping levels.
  • Promote collaboration across departments (procurement, distribution, management).
  • Provide clear communication through briefings and updates.
  • Lead change management initiatives and embed best practices.

The Candidate: The successful Production Supervisor will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Minimum 5 years in production management (batch/continuous manufacturing).
  • Knowledge of HR & H&S legislation, quality systems, and modern manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong leadership, team building, and people management.
  • Experience with shift control, change implementation, and continuous improvement.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Planning, scheduling, and organisational skills.
  • Effective communicator (oral & written) and negotiator.
  • Proficient in IT and understanding product specifications/drawings.

Desirable Skills & Knowledge (not essential)

  • Risk assessment training, auditing experience.
  • Knowledge of cGMP, production processes, and cost control.
  • IOSHH qualification.
  • HNC, with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Degree/management qualification; background in material science
