Job summary

A leading Defence organisation is seeking a Procurement Engineer located in Samlesbury, providing a hybrid work model. This position manages suppliers and drives strategic sourcing activities aimed at reducing costs and ensuring value for money. Candidates should possess strong negotiation and collaboration skills, along with experience in supplier risk management and excellent data analysis abilities. This is a full-time role on a 6 or 12-month contract with competitive hourly pay.

Procurement Engineer

Located in Samlesbury, this hybrid role (2‑3 days onsite per week) offers £33.24/hour (Umbrella Inside IR35) on a 6 or 12 month contract initially. This is a great opportunity to work within one of the UK’s leading Defence organisations. The position is within the DLF & Service Provision Value Team, responsible for one or more suppliers and actively managing and driving strategic “Value” related sourcing activities for your area of responsibility. You will undertake analysis of supplier pricing to ensure value for money, drive cost reductions, lead affordability campaigns, and ensure effective supplier risk management and supply chain resilience. You will be an integral stakeholder in enabling supplier performance through effective sourcing and supplier relationship management, supporting Life Cycle Management and associated Governance activities, while managing various internal stakeholders.

Knowledge
  • Continuous Improvement mind‑set with proven examples of identifying new ideas that drive improvement, problem solving and working collaboratively within a procurement (or similar) environment.
  • Detailed understanding and experience of supplier risk and opportunity management.
  • Working understanding of tool sets and IT such as ERP systems, Microsoft Office – particularly Excel.
  • Desirable: previous experience managing strategic supplier relationships and complex development contracts.
Skills
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, fostering close & trusted relationships with a network of demanding internal and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiation skills – experience of price and contractual terms and conditions negotiations.
  • Ability to compile data, analyse and propose recommendations through reports and presentations.
