Job description

HL is at an exciting time of its evolution as the UK's leading wealth provider, the business has committed a significant investment in transforming the business and digital platforms, operational efficiency and ultimately improving the client journeys and offerings. As one of two Category Leads at Hargreaves Lansdown, you will lead the Procurement team on a 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover contract, overseeing the full supplier lifecycle—from selection and negotiation through contracting and ongoing management. You will own the strategy and act as the primary point of contact for all procurement activities within your business area.

This role is a 12‑month FTC, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hybrid flexible working is available, allowing you to work from home or the Bristol head office (BS1 5HL).

Responsibilities
  • Lead the procurement team and oversee the full supplier lifecycle—from selection and negotiation through contracting and ongoing management. Own the strategy and serve as the primary point of contact for all procurement activities within your business area, partnering with the Chief Technology Officer to accelerate transformation across the business.
  • Deliver the sustainable savings target for the financial year, managing the risk, performance and governance for suppliers and ensuring that all activities align to our ESG plan.
  • Category Management – drive the creation and maintain the category plan aligned with the business and technology roadmaps/strategy to drive commercial value, ensuring resilience, risk and timelines for service delivery.
  • Sourcing – build on the category plans, create and execute the sourcing strategy, lead end‑to‑end sourcing activity, including market assessments, complex supplier negotiations and implementation of contract agreements.
  • Supplier Management – for all suppliers ensure robust governance programmes to manage the relationship, deliver on contract obligations of both parties, measure performance and risk, while ensuring commercial value and governance throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Cross‑Function Lead – lead and set the standards for regulatory matters and procurement processes across the team in agreement with other leads and the Group Head of Procurement. Ensure processes are documented, published and communicated within procurement and across the business.
  • Support the Group Head of Procurement to drive the transformation of the Procurement team, improving efficiency and effectiveness within the team and across the whole HL business.
Qualifications
  • Creating and leading a Procurement category team with significant technology elements in a business that is transforming to adopt digital technologies at pace, establishing trust with stakeholders and team alike to drive cost savings, supplier resilience and deliver supplier governance to mitigate risk and deliver performance.
  • Working across technology and operations business categories, with knowledge and credibility with various technologies, innovative by nature, inquisitive with the ability to confidently challenge and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem‑solving skills with experience in leading high‑value, complex negotiations, including outsourcing and offshoring activities.
  • Understanding of the regulatory landscape in a Financial Services environment.
  • Working within EBA Guidelines on Outsourcing. Good data analytics skills with the ability to understand financial, economic, risk and contractual data and to consolidate into easy‑to‑read documents and presentations.
