We are pleased to offer an exciting locum opportunity for a Prison Cleared Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join a multidisciplinary team within a secure prison environment on the Isle of Wight. Role Purpose

As part of the mental health team, you will deliver high-quality, person-centred care to individuals within a secure prison environment. Your role is vital in promoting mental wellbeing, supporting rehabilitation, and contributing to a safe, therapeutic, and structured custodial setting.

What You Will Do

Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments on reception and throughout custody, identifying risks and forming tailored care plans.

Deliver a wide range of evidence‑based interventions, including medication administration, therapeutic support, and psychoeducation.

Play a key role in risk management and safeguarding, ensuring safety through adherence to prison security protocols.

Work collaboratively with prison officers, GPs, psychologists, substance misuse services, and external agencies to deliver integrated care.

Oversee and contribute to safe medication management and prescribing processes.

Respond to mental health emergencies, providing crisis interventions and de‑escalation where required.

Maintain accurate documentation in line with professional, legal, and institutional standards.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience working as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, ideally within prisons, secure units, crisis teams, or equivalent settings.

Strong assessment and risk management skills within fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments.

Experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, trauma histories, and substance misuse.

Prison clearance/security vetting, or willingness to obtain.
