Company: Established in 1998, this packaging company specialises in creating beautiful card‑based packaging for high‑end luxury brands such as Gucci, Mont Blanc and Lancome.
Overview: This client requires an Estimator with knowledge of all areas of carton construction and estimating. Experience in all production processes from print to conversion, with emphasis on carton design and layout, is essential.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Estimating accurate production costs using the current MIS system Tharstern or similar.
- Liaising with internal departments – material procurement, design studio, print, die cutting, windowing, gluing, warehouse and dispatch.
- Preparing estimates for the commercial manager and account executives.
- Producing estimates within agreed timescales.
- Verifying carton and layout with each department for production and cost efficiency.
- Analyzing and determining quantity and cost of all raw materials used in manufacturing.
- Assessing spoilage/waste of all raw materials, machine make‑ready time, run speeds, run time and hand work where applicable.
- Obtaining sub‑contractor estimates for any external finishing.
- Reviewing prices regularly to keep them up to date with changing information.
- Developing procedures for pricing and costing work.
- Managing tenders to achieve strict deadlines.
Experience Required
- Previous experience of estimating in the print industry.
- Experience with the Tharstern MIS system is beneficial.
- Strong mathematical ability, including understanding of measurements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Sense of urgency, addressing requests effectively without neglecting detail.
- Ability to understand customer and company specifications and explain technical procedures clearly.
- Initiative and ownership of projects and tasks.
- Excellent organisational skills, including follow‑up and accountability.
- Problem‑solving and logical thinking.
- High ethical standards, capable of working independently.
- Professional customer‑satisfaction skills to maintain positive relationships.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
