Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in the UK is seeking a Principal or Associate Mechanical Engineer to join their Data Centre and Mission Critical team. The role involves technical delivery of electrical design services, interacting directly with clients, and mentoring junior staff. About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal or Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Data Centre and Mission Critical team.

It's an exciting time to join the industry. Data centres are increasingly important to the economy, with the technology that drives them changing at a blisteringly fast rate, and our Mission Critical team assists clients in navigating the evolving requirements of this sector.

Our experience covers everything in the Data Centre & Mission Critical sector – from complex live plant upgrades, close control, data halls, financial‑sector trading floor environments, critical engineering, and due diligence reviews of existing facilities, you will get to work on projects across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Working collaboratively with our specialist groups, you will be joining a collaborative, knowledgeable, highly engaged team who love what they do. Our teams have a wealth of experience and offer a positive, supportive and flexible culture.

Working alongside the Project Leader, you will be facing clients, responding to our clients’ needs, developing designs and producing reports, specifications and guidance or overseeing testing and commissioning activities. We work closely as a team to ensure we achieve the best results and deliver a consistent, high‑quality service for our clients.

In this key and varied role, you can expect to:

  • Be responsible for the day‑to‑day technical delivery of the electrical design services for data centre and mission‑critical projects.
  • Lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.
  • Interact regularly with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a communicative, collaborative and timely approach to delivery. You will be in a client‑facing role, attending project meetings and disseminating the brief to the project team.
  • Work with the team leader to help monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered.
  • Mentor and support our ‘next gen’ professionals, including apprentices and graduates.
About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Proven experience working as a Mechanical Engineer or closely related role, with a track record delivering on Mission Critical and Data Centre projects.
  • Experience with modern technical delivery processes and use of relevant software/tools such as Revit, BIM and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrable experience working with clients/contractors/architects in a design‑oriented / consultant role.
  • Self‑awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity
  • Experience in supporting others to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.
