ROLE SUMMARY

We are currently looking for a Principal Hardware Engineer to join our Research and Development team, based in Dunfermline. Working with a highly skilled and innovative team you will design and develop electronic modules and systems for new retinal imaging product development and existing retinal imaging product improvement, providing technical leadership as part of a multi-disciplinary R&D team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Concept generation, analysis and development of innovative analogue, mixed signal and digital electronics solutions and system architectures for new retinal imaging product development, in accordance with design control process.
  • Provide technical leadership over specification, design, and efficacy of electronics designs.
  • Provide timely delivery of electronics design solutions against project requirements.
  • Technical and schedule delivery management of outsourced designs.
  • Provide electronic design documentation, design review and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA).
  • Contribution of continuous improvement of existing product range through design analysis and innovative technology solutions.
  • Contribution of continuous improvement of design and development processes
  • Oversight of electronics designs of other engineers.
  • Mentor electronic engineering staff with regards to design and analysis techniques, test methodologies and design process.
  • Develop and inform product and technology roadmap with regards to emerging technologies for performance improvements and cost reduction.
  • Communicate design intent and operational workflow of designed electronic systems to product engineering staff.
  • Provide customer support in a pro-active manner in the form of creative solutions to problems encountered with the product.
  • To deliver work in compliance with ISO and FDA Medical Device Design Control processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong academic background (2:1 Degree) in Electronic Engineering or equivalent education gained through work experience.
  • Previous experience in electronics design engineering essential – minimum 7 years.
  • Strong competence in analogue, digital and mixed signal electronics design and analysis using modelling and experimental/prototyping methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronics assembly processes and test methodologies.
  • DFx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Test).
  • Design for EMC. Ability to debug EMC issues.
  • An ability to work within tight deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Team orientated, responsive and customer focused.
  • Responsibility for delivering design solutions with significant elements of cross-functional design outside the candidate’s expertise (e.g. optical, mechanical, software, firmware).
  • Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solver.
