Principal Civil Engineer – Water

Location: Leeds (City Centre)

Salary: £50,000 – £65,000

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time/Flexible

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join a leading consultancy team delivering high-profile water infrastructure projects across the UK.

Following a series of successful framework appointments in the water sector, this role offers the chance to contribute to the most ambitious Asset Management Period (AMP) yet. The successful candidate will be based in Leeds, supporting the delivery of major clean and wastewater infrastructure projects, including a significant capital programme aimed at reducing storm overflow discharges.

Working at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, this position provides exposure to a wide range of project types—from strategic planning and concept design through to detailed engineering. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers and helping to shape a collaborative and forward-thinking team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee the civil design of water infrastructure projects (clean and wastewater).
• Support project delivery across all phases: asset planning, strategy, concept, outline, and detailed design.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior team members.
• Collaborate closely with design leads, clients, and wider project teams.

About You:

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered (or working toward Chartership) with ICE or CIWEM.
• Extensive UK water sector experience, ideally including storm overflows, SUDS, surface water, or sewage treatment.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with a track record of delivering community-focused, sustainable engineering solutions.
