Job description
JOB VACANCY – Pre-School Assistant (Possible apprenticeship)

24-30 hours per week – Termtime only – 38 weeks per year

£TBA per hour depending on experience and qualifications - Pension

This includes references from previous employers, verification of identity and qualifications, as well as an enhanced check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), in line with statutory guidance. These measures are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people who engage with our organisation.

We are currently looking for an additional and enthusiastic person to join our small pre‑school setting and team, as a Pre‑School Assistant preferably in January 2026. You must ideally be qualified to Level 3 or above and preferably have some experience of this role or children. Apprenticeships for all ages will also be considered.

To provide a stimulating and varied programme of play and learning opportunities for all children to ensure they all reach their best possible goals before starting school.

Responsibilities
  • To ensure the safety and well‑being of all children whilst in your care
  • To implement strategies to manage behaviour and self‑regulation
  • To assist in the setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment when required.
  • To ensure high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times.
  • To ensure that any information received concerning the children and pre‑school is kept confidential at all times.
  • To actively encourage the children’s progress in all areas of development, including different types and stages of play, by interaction and extension of play activities.
  • To be responsible for keeping up to date, record files for your Key children.
  • To attend staff meetings as requested.
  • To attend training as requested.
  • To support the work and beliefs of the pre‑school by helping to create an environment that promotes open and equal opportunities for all children and adults.
  • To work as part of a team and support colleagues including the Deputy Manager and Manager.
  • To be flexible with the working practices of the pre‑school.
  • All applicants must be able to cover additional hours when required.
