Job description

Thaxted Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join our team on a part-time basis for 24 hours a week. Exact days are negotiable and dependent on the right candidate but will include a 6pm finish on a Thursday afternoon.

As a key member of our practice, you will be able to treat patients in your own clinic along with the support of our team of GPs, ANP and ACP, practice nurses, health care assistants, and dispensary and administration teams.

We would love to hear from you if you are an experienced practice nurse looking for an exciting new challenge or a secondary care nurse looking to make the switch into primary care.

Main duties of the job
  • Chronic disease management (such as diabetes and/or respiratory medicine).
  • Cervical smears.
  • Contraception.
  • Wound care.
  • Removal of sutures.
  • Blood pressure monitoring.
  • Travel advice and injections.
  • Routine/childhood immunisations.
  • ECGs.
  • Urinalysis.
  • Health promotions.
  • Regular clinical meetings.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care.
  • Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
Qualifications
  • A relevant nursing degree and at least 2 years post qualification experience in a general practice setting or equivalent.
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN. Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications
  • Competence (or willingness to learn) to undertake Asthma and Diabetic clinics / reviews and hold relevant certificates.
