Dudley Wood Surgery is a small, friendly GP practice located in the heart of our local community, caring for approximately 2,700 patients. We are looking for a dedicated Practice Nurse to join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care.
This is a 16-hour post, working Wednesdays and Thursdays. The successful candidate will be the sole Practice Nurse, supported by a close-knit multidisciplinary team.
The role is based in General Practice and is ideal for a nurse who enjoys working autonomously while being well supported by colleagues. You will contribute to a range of nursing services appropriate to a small but busy practice, with the opportunity to build strong, ongoing relationships with our patients.

JobSummary:
Toassist medical personnel in the care of Practice patients to include treatment,preventative care, screening and patient education. To provide and maintain a high standard ofnursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to thedoctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. Care will be provided both in the Practiceand community setting.
JobResponsibilities:
Providingassessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice
- Providing nursingtreatments to patients in participation with general practitioners orindependently to agreed protocols.
- Provide generaland specific chronic disease management to patients (within agreedprotocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
- Advise patients ongeneral health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.

Pathologicalspecimens and investigatory procedures:
Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage anddespatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs,smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used. Perform any investigatory proceduresrequested by the GPs.
Administrativeand professional responsibilities:
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilitiesof the Practice team.
- Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments arerecorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer systems asappropriate.
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associatedwith patient health care and registration with the Practice.
- Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical informationrequired for regular and ad hoc reports.
- Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required.
- Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy andpolicy and develop appropriate protocols.
- Maintain a notice board in the waiting area designated for patienthealth care education.
Student/Staffeducation and training:
Participatein the education and training of students of all disciplines and the inductionof all members of practice staff with special responsibility for nursing staff.
Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned withpatient care and with all other disciplines within the Practice, withappropriate regard to confidentiality.
Professional Development:
Maintain continued professional education byattendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary forprofessional development.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Fully trained Practice Nurse
- Previous experience working in a primary care or GP surgery setting (highly desirable)
- Sound knowledge of general practice nursing procedures and best practices
- Competent in patient assessment and management of common health conditions
- Proficient in administering medications and treatments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Familiarity with EMIS
