A leading healthcare provider in Blackburn is seeking a Point of Care Coordinator to implement and manage quality assurance for Point of Care devices across multiple sites. The successful candidate will supervise a team of Associate Practitioners, ensuring compliance with legislation and guidelines. Applicants must have an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent experience, along with extensive knowledge of Point of Care testing. The role requires strong IT skills and effective communication abilities, with travel required between various Trust sites.

Job description

The Point of Care Coordinator will be responsible in conjunction with the Point of Care Clinical Lead for the implementation of the Trust wide Point of Care Policy, ensuring the Trust and other services comply with Current Legislation, Regulations and Guidelines.

The post holder will coordinate and manage a team of Associate Practitioners, and together will provide training, assessment, advice and problem solving for a range of Point of Care devices. Implement a Quality Assurance scheme liaising with the relevant laboratories, for these Point of Care devices. The Point of Care coordinator acts as the link between the users of Point of Care and the Pathology Department. They will have an understanding of Point of Care devices for all Pathology disciplines.

The POCC will be required to work across ELHT sites regularly at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital sites with occasional visits to other ELHT sites including Community sites and they must have a full UK driving license and access to own vehicle for travel.

Main duties of the job

Establish the extent of the Point of Care devices ensuring that already established devices meet the requirements of the Point of Care policy.

Ensure ongoing compliance with all Point of Care national statutory requirements e.g. ISO15189 and linking to Trust wide Governance, Risk Management and Audit policies and procedures.

Provide help and advice to users of Point of Care devices acting as a link between them and the Clinical Laboratory Medicine (CLM) department.

To act as an initial point of contact for all new Point of Care developments throughout ELHT

Participate in Trust wide evaluation, development and implementation of Point of Care initiatives.

Act as line manager for the Point of Care team including initial assessment of HR issues as well as recruitment; reporting to Pathology Operations Manager

Liaise with other organisations providing support and Quality Assurance eg - Analytical measurement using varied instruments and analysers at organisations such as Pharmacies and clinics throughout East Lancashire.

May be required to undertake Research & Development activities such as equipment testing or clinical trials.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be the Lead Provider of the service and the employer of colleagues working within the service, across sites.

If you are successful in your application, and commence work prior to 1st February 2026, your employment will transfer to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on 1st February 2026 under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, 2006. There will be no impact for your job role, terms and conditions of employment or location of work.
