Job summary

A facilities management company is looking for an on-site Plumber at HMP Long Lartin, responsible for maintenance and compliance in a prison environment. The job requires NVQ level 2/3 qualifications in Plumbing and Heating, with responsibilities including conducting repairs, ensuring Health & Safety standards, and participating in sustainability initiatives. This role involves a shift pattern of 39 hours per week and requires Prison Security Clearance, supported by the employer.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Plumbing and Heating essential.
  • Experience operating light plant preferred.
  • Knowledge of Legionella Control (L8) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met across the contract.
  • Perform statutory works on time and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine maintenance, including repairs.
  • Repair mains water supply and address life-expired equipment.
  • Inspect and sample water to maintain system integrity.
  • Monitor the BMS System for optimal performance.
  • Support sustainability goals by contributing to zero carbon initiatives.

Job description

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Plumber in HMP Long Lartin.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place).

There is a need to work 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Plumber plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

What you will do:
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met across the contract
  • Perform statutory works on time, ensuring compliance
  • Conduct routine and non-routine maintenance, including fault finding and repairs
  • Repair mains water supply and address life‑expired equipment
  • Inspect, sample water, and assess risks to maintain system integrity
  • Monitor the BMS System to ensure optimal performance
  • Support zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals
  • Handle additional tasks as directed by your line manager, including working at height and in various weather conditions
What you will bring:
  • Appropriate Trade qualification – NVQ level 2/3 in Plumbing and Heating
  • Experience in operating light plant
  • Legionella Control (L8) and experience in a commercial environment would be desirable
