Salary: up to £100,000 + car allowance + bonus + package

A leading consultancy is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to oversee the planning function on a major and complex project based in Plymouth. The role will manage a small team of planners, maintain full programme visibility, and drive best practice to support the successful delivery of a high‑profile scheme. With a hybrid working setup involving three days per week on site and the remainder working remotely, this opportunity offers both strategic influence and flexibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end‑to‑end planning function for a significant major project, ensuring programmes are realistic, robust, and aligned with delivery strategy.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain fully integrated project programmes using Primavera P6.
  • Manage a small team of planners, providing leadership, mentoring, and ongoing development.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contract requirements, providing accurate reporting and progress assessments in line with contractual obligations.
  • Work closely with project, commercial, engineering, and delivery teams to ensure programme clarity, risk awareness, and operational alignment.
  • Produce regular programme dashboards, status updates, forecasts, and critical path analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a key client‑facing representative of the consultancy, communicating scheduling strategies and progress confidently and professionally.
  • Identify programme risks and opportunities, offering recommendations and mitigation strategies.
  • Support collaborative working practices across the project, helping to embed strong planning discipline and reporting standards.
Candidate
  • Proven experience working in a Planning Manager or Senior Planning role on major construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced Primavera P6 skills with the ability to build, analyse, and explain complex programmes.
  • Excellent understanding of NEC contract requirements and associated planning and reporting obligations.
  • Strong client‑facing skills with the confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Experience leading and developing small teams in a complex project environment.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
