The Planning Engineer is accountable for developing, monitoring, management and delivery of the relevant contract engineering & construction planning programmes for all work scopes, so that the contract can be controlled and executed within Cost, Quality & Schedule.
Responsibilities
- To develop and maintain accurate and effective engineering & construction programmes, plans, schedules.
- To develop resource schedules for the engineering & construction functions ensuring accurate data is published and readily available.
- To utilise, where available and appropriate, industry planning norms / standards that align with the contractual requirements.
- To proactively engage with stakeholders and interfaces to maximise the overall success of engineering & construction delivery.
- To ensure all engineering & construction work is planned in compliance with all company and client processes and procedures.
- To support the successful execution of assigned engineering & construction works; safely, and in line with specification, budget and program.
- To communicate and cooperate with and support all affected parties in order to support efficient and effective engineering & construction planning.
- To engage with stakeholders to maintain accuracy of engineering & construction programmes.
- To report on a regular basis engineering & construction planning status, changes, risks, options.
- To engage with procurement and supply chain to accommodate long lead items within engineering & construction plans.
- To support management and delivery teams (management, design and construction) as required.
- To engage with construction teams to capture realistic and practical methods of working and incorporate in engineering & construction planning outputs - Constructability.
- To incorporate emergent works effectively into existing engineering & construction programmes.
- To capture all instances of change to engineering & construction scope, programme, budget, and resources, with sufficient data granularity to support periodic reporting and analysis to drive improvements.
- To anticipate problem areas regarding engineering & construction planning critical paths and advise remedial action.
- To produce all necessary engineering & construction programmes and reports at the appropriate times to reflect the overall contract requirements.
- To report requirements to be agreed with Contract Management and client.
- To optimise the use of approved computer software packages to aid reporting responsibilities, visibility, communication, and ensure all key accountabilities are met.
- To lead assessment of engineering plans that help to identify opportunities to improve planning norms or processes, and overall improvements in engineering delivery.
Qualifications
- Level 4 Project Control / Management Qualification.
- 5 years recent experience in an equivalent role.
- ONC / HNC or equivalent in an appropriate Planning and / or Engineering discipline (mechanical, EC&I, construction, etc).
- Good grasp of CDM regulations.
- Relevant Computerised Planning Package Training (e.g. Primavera P3, P6 Microsoft).
- Relevant trade Apprenticeship (i.e. Mechanical, EC&I, Project Controls - industrial environment).
