Overview

The Pharmacy Department provides a comprehensive pharmacy service across the Trust and to external community units. It is a large, busy department with over 180 staff including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Science Manufacturing Technicians and Admin staff. The department works with the School of Pharmacy and the Medical School at the University of East Anglia. Functions include ordering, receipt and supply of medicines to wards and departments, dispensing for inpatients, outpatients and community units, and supplying ward stocks (around 2,500 items per day). The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services (e.g., chemotherapy and sterile products) and has a Quality Assurance team to ensure high quality standards.

Job responsibilities

Operations Manager, Stores and Procurement is a new role that will lead the Stores team and drive continuous improvement. The post holder will report to the Pharmacy Procurement Specialist and will oversee day-to-day operations, workload allocation, KPIs, recruitment, performance reviews and other HR matters. The role requires registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council, with significant hospital pharmacy experience. Stores and/or Procurement experience is desirable. Leadership experience and a leadership qualification (or working towards one) are essential, as the post holder will lead the Stores team.

Other details include:

  • Role is full-time with Monday to Friday work; 1 in 10 weekends plus bank holiday rota (minimum 1 per year); rosters may change.

The Pharmacy department holds an MHRA Wholesale Dealers Licence. A key part of the role is ensuring legislation and regulations are adhered to, and working with the Pharmacy Procurement Specialist to ensure audits and actions for compliance. The post holder must prioritise workload, collaborate with Pharmacy stakeholders and Trust staff, and communicate effectively. The ability to plan and implement change, emotional intelligence, teamwork, flexibility and strong interpersonal skills are essential. The role is full-time Monday to Friday with 1 in 10 weekends and bank holiday rota commitments. Rotas are subject to change.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Pharmacy Technician level 3/4 qualification
  • Current GPhC registration as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Accredited Final Accuracy Checking
  • Management or leadership qualification (Trust Licence to Lead, Edward Jenner Programme or equivalent)

Experience
