Overview

Job Purpose: I am a young man with autism and type 1 diabetes, seeking a kind, good-humoured Personal Assistant to accompany me on trips and activities, while providing gentle supervision. The role involves companionship and buddy-like support. I use a blood glucose monitor and may require supervision when I take insulin injections. I also take medication after breakfast and lunch, so an attentive and supportive PA is ideal.

Responsibilities
  • Provide companionship and encouragement.
  • Supervise blood glucose monitoring and insulin injections.
  • Ensure I take my medication after breakfast and lunch.
  • Support on social and leisure activities and help me remain independent.
  • Attend essential training as required.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with autism.
  • Knowledge of diabetes awareness.
  • Full UK driving licence (required for some roles); own personal car is preferred.
  • Safeguarding Adults/Children, First Aid, Autism/Asperger awareness, and Safe Administration of Medication training (or willingness to complete).
  • DBS check (cost covered by employer).
  • References from two referees (one from current or last employer).
  • Satisfactory probationary period.
Hours, Benefits & Conditions
  • Hours: 8 hours per week, flexible — to be negotiated at interview.
  • Annual holiday entitlement equivalent to approximately 5.6 consecutive weeks of work based on annual hours.
  • Free Care Skills training for all staff.
  • If the job requires manual handling, handling of hazardous chemicals, food handling, or medication handling, annual training will be required.
  • Post subject to DBS check and references as noted above.

  • Kind, flexible and good-humoured; punctual, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Desirable: Full UK driving licence.
