Description
A family is looking to recruit 2 Personal Assistants to work on a 1:1 basis with each of their two sons aged 11 and 13 who both have a range of complex needs.
Hours
Term Time – 6 hours per weekend (flexible: Saturday or Sunday).
School Holidays – 12 hours per week across 2 days (flexible).
Wage
£12.21 per hour
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Support the child to access the community safely and confidently, including parks, leisure activities, shops and other public spaces – gradually building up these experiences.
- Provide personal care, including toileting, changing, and hygiene needs.
- Implement communication strategies (e.g. visual supports).
- Support regulation and sensory needs using appropriate strategies and calming techniques.
- Always ensure safety and supervision, especially in relation to pica and behavioural & safety risks.
- Engage the child in play, activities and learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors.
- Follow care plans as directed by the family and professionals, examples: assistance with dressing, bathing, personal care, attending social activities, shopping, housework.
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience supporting children or young adults with complex needs.
- Consistent and reliable.
- Punctual with good time management.
- Full, Clean Driving Licence.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with ASD.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with ADHD.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with incontinence care and personal care tasks.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with severe learning disabilities.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with challenging behaviours.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with sensory processing needs.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with challenging behaviours including Positive Behaviour Support.
- Experience with children and/or young adults with awareness and management of PICA (eating non-food items).
- Training in de-escalation.
- Willingness to undertake training within this role.
