Job description
About Scrumconnect Consulting

Scrumconnect Consulting is a UK-based, award-winning digital consultancy delivering technology and transformation services across the public sector. We work with government departments and regulated organisations to build secure, scalable, and user-centred digital services that meet GOV.UK Service Standards and the DDAT framework.

About the Role

Scrumconnect Consulting is seeking an experienced Performance Tester to support the delivery of high-quality public sector digital services. You will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing performance and non-functional testing to ensure systems are scalable, resilient, and capable of handling real-world user demand.

You will work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, product owners, and business analysts to identify performance risks early, analyse system behaviour under load, and provide clear recommendations to improve application and infrastructure performance.

Key Responsibilities
Performance Testing & Strategy
  • Create and maintain performance test plans and non-functional test strategies aligned with project and service requirements.
  • Define and validate non-functional requirements (NFRs) such as response time, throughput, scalability, and stability.
  • Ensure appropriate performance test coverage across different environments.
Test Execution & Analysis
  • Design, build, and execute load, stress, soak, and spike tests using tools such as Apache JMeter, K6, Gatling, Locust, or similar.
  • Conduct API and microservices performance testing, simulating realistic user traffic and usage patterns.
  • Analyse performance results, system metrics, and logs to identify bottlenecks and capacity issues.
Defect Management & Collaboration
  • Log, track, and manage performance defects, working closely with development teams on root-cause analysis.
  • Support optimisation of application code, databases, and infrastructure configurations.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines.
Reporting & Governance
  • Produce clear and actionable performance test reports, including findings, risks, and improvement recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test scripts, scenarios, and results.
  • Ensure testing activities align with GOV.UK standards, security requirements, and public sector quality expectations.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience working as a Performance Tester on web-based or cloud-hosted applications.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, K6, Gatling, or Locust.
  • Experience with API performance testing and distributed systems.
  • Good understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Experience analysing performance metrics, logs, and monitoring data.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methods (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings to non‑technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working on UK public sector or government projects.
  • Knowledge of GOV.UK Service Standards and non-functional testing requirements.
  • Experience using monitoring or logging tools such as Azure Monitor, ELK, or Splunk.
  • ISTQB Foundation or Agile Tester certification.
  • BPSS or SC clearance (or willingness to undergo vetting).
Why Join Scrumconnect Consulting?
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact public sector programmes.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Competitive salary or contract rates.
  • Health benefits, pension contributions, and professional development support.
