Job summary

A financial solutions provider in Reading is looking for a Payroll Manager to oversee end-to-end UK payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory skills and in-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation. Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and actively process end-to-end UK payroll including:
  • Starters, leavers, and changes
  • Overtime, allowances, bonuses, and deductions
  • Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation including PAYE, NI, pensions (auto‑enrolment), and statutory payments
  • Supervise, support, and coach a small payroll team ensuring workloads are managed effectively
  • Review and approve payroll outputs, reconciliations and variance checks
  • Act as the main escalation point for complex payroll queries from employees and stakeholders
  • Pension files and statutory reports
  • Year‑end processes including P60s and P11Ds
  • Maintain payroll controls documentation and procedures
  • Liaise with HMRC pension providers and third‑party payroll vendors as required
  • Support payroll audits and internal reviews
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience supervising or senior‑level experience in UK payroll
  • Strong hands‑on experience with full end‑to‑end payroll processing
  • In‑depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, pensions, statutory payments)
  • Experience managing or mentoring a small payroll team
Desirable Experience
  • Payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent)
  • Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms
  • Salary up to 40000 depending on experience
