Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Support Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for students with specific medical needs. This role is crucial in helping students succeed academically and achieve their full potential while managing their health needs. You will work collaboratively with the student and the wider support team to create and implement an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Start Date: 01 January 2026
Salary: £24,413 (full time all year) (actual annual salary will be pro rata for term time and part time hours)
Contract: 10 hours per week on a two‑term temporary contract (January – August 26)
Live On Site Until: Friday 9th January 2026

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one‑to‑one pastoral and well‑being support to students with specific medical needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of the student’s healthcare plan and administer first aid/medication as required (following relevant training).
  • Attend to the student’s personal care needs, which may include mobility assistance or hygiene support, in line with their specific requirements.
  • Develop a productive and supportive working relationship with students, acting as a positive role model and mentor to build their self‑esteem and independence.
  • Liaise effectively with parents/carers and external agencies (e.g. health visitors, nurses and specialists) to ensure continuity of care and support.
  • Liaise with academic staff and other support professionals to ensure a cohesive support system.
  • Support students within the classroom, assisting them with learning activities and helping to manage any challenging situations with a calm, restorative approach.
  • Ensure all support is provided in accordance with school policies and procedures, including child protection, health, safety, security, and confidentiality.

  • Experience supporting students with disabilities, additional learning needs, or medical conditions, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with the student.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the student’s changing needs.
