Overview
An exciting opportunity for maternity leave cover (a secondment or 12 month fixed term) at CUH for a nurse with experience in paediatric rheumatology to join the Child and Adolescent East of England Rheumatology Service (CHEERS) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. The post provides NHSE specialist commissioned paediatric rheumatology care for the East of England region. The service is delivered by closely linked expert teams in Cambridge and Norwich with a shared care network and outreach clinics. The post holder will be the lead nurse based at Addenbrooke's Hospital, joining a team with two consultants, physiotherapy, OT, psychology, a research nurse, pharmacist and secretarial support. The service works with patients and parents to shape and improve care and is rated highly in patient feedback and benchmarking. There will be opportunities to access training relevant to the specialty, build relationships across the CHEERS network, and support service development.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with paediatric rheumatology consultants to provide excellent care to children from across the region who attend for outpatient appointments, infusions and inpatient admissions, as well as supporting outreach clinics.
- Be the lead nurse for the service, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures.
- Provide specialist advice and support to and liaise with other staff.
- Deliver specialist education and training for other staff and students.
- Implement a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care, incorporating new treatments and evidence-based care.
- Undertake research and lead clinical audits in the specialist area.
- Support service development and collaboration across the east of England CHEERS network.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Experience in paediatric rheumatology; recognised as an expert in the specialty.
- Ability to assess, develop and implement specialist nursing care programmes; undertake specialist procedures.
- Ability to provide specialist education and training and to liaise effectively with other staff.
- Willingness to engage in research and lead clinical audits in the area of paediatric rheumatology.
