Job description

Designed by families, for families, The Ark was opened in September 2019 by the Mayor of London. The grounds offer wheelchair accessible outdoor experiences, including a Woodland Walk through a 7-acre nature reserve, a hydrotherapy pool and overnight suites for families to be close to their loved ones. At The Ark we are able to provide Specialist Care and Nursing for babies, children and young people, supporting their full clinical, emotional, social and practical needs. We have created a space where children who are seriously unwell are accepted as they are, safe to play, explore, express themselves and build confidence.

Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, the charity has had a sustained period of growth over the last two years and we are looking for high quality employees to come and be a part of that success.

Our expert staff and trained volunteers provide clinical, emotional and practical support for families across North and Central London and Herts Valley. We carefully adapt our support for every child and offer it wherever it is required – whether in their home, their community or at our state-of-the‑art children’s hospice building, The Ark, in Barnet.

Job Description

Noah’s Ark helps babies, children, young people with life‑limiting and life‑threatening conditions and their families make the most of the special time they have together in North and Central London, North West London, as well as Hertsmere.

  • Provide enhanced palliative care and support to babies, children, young people, and their families. Meet with families on referral through the Noah’s Ark Team, providing continuity, consistency, and coordination of care through the MDT process and effective communication between the hospice, hospitals, and community palliative care teams.
  • Identify BCYP who may benefit from palliative care, promote effective care coordination, advance care planning and symptom management planning with the aim of improving BCYP and family experience of care, establishing effective patient pathways and management of health care needs in the paediatric palliative population.
  • Form part of the Noah’s Ark Clinical Team and the Louis Dundas Centre Paediatric Palliative Care Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Attend a weekly MDT as part of the Louis Dundas Team and visit shared children who are inpatients at GOSH. Join relevant GOSH ward rounds and provide updates for the Noah’s Ark team.
  • Enable increased training, experience and coordination between hospital, hospice and community palliative care resources in North Central and North West London; with the aim to improve patient pathway and management of health care needs in the paediatric palliative population.
  • This role will be employed and managed under Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, with a direct line manager and support from a multi‑skilled team at The Ark. A mentor and an honorary contract from the Louis Dundas Centre will also be provided. Inductions and training will be delivered in both locations, with an emphasis on Louis Dundas Centre (GOSH) training and foundation courses.
About You
  • Experienced Band 5 nurse ready to take a step up, or an experienced Band 6 nurse looking to use your skills in the hospice sector and keen to gain the wider experience provided by dividing your time in different clinical environments.
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills, striving to make a difference in creative and demonstrable ways.
  • Good IT skills and ability to adjust to using different software systems depending on where you are based.
  • Flexibility, organisational skills and ability to work independently is crucial in this role; being able to work between two different bases and two different clinical environments.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications from groups who are currently under‑represented in our staff. Our diversity council is working hard to construct positive changes within our organisation. We are a disability confident employer and part of our commitment is to interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
