Package Manager - University New Build Scheme

Location: Glasgow, Scotland

Overview

An experienced Package Manager is required to support the delivery of a major new-build university facility in Glasgow. The project involves complex internal fit‑out works and significant Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) elements. The successful candidate will oversee key work packages, manage subcontractor performance, and ensure delivery to programme, budget, and quality standards.

This role is ideal for a driven construction professional with a strong background in internal fit‑out and M&E coordination, who has previously contributed to schemes valued at £20 million or more.

Key Responsibilities
Package Management
  • Take full ownership of assigned work packages throughout pre‑construction, construction, and handover stages.
  • Manage procurement, scoping, and appointment of subcontractors in line with project requirements.
  • Review design information, identify gaps, and manage design development with consultants and subcontractors.
  • Oversee progress, delivery, and quality of internal fit‑out and M&E packages.
Subcontractor Oversight
  • Lead daily/weekly coordination meetings with M&E and fit‑out subcontractors.
  • Ensure subcontractors adhere to programme, health & safety requirements, and quality benchmarks.
  • Monitor workforce levels and resource planning.
  • Resolve on‑site clashes, technical issues, and sequencing challenges.
Technical & Quality Assurance
  • Review installation against design, specification, and building standards.
  • Coordinate closely with the M&E consultants and internal design team on technical queries.
  • Ensure quality control processes are followed and snagging is completed promptly.
Programme & Reporting
  • Track progress against the master programme, highlighting risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain detailed package programmes, trackers, and weekly reports.
  • Support the preparation of client progress updates and attend progress meetings.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all operations comply with company and statutory H&S requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments within your work areas.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture among subcontractors and site teams.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
  • Proven experience as a Package Manager, Site Manager, or similar role on major construction projects (£20m+).
  • Strong background in internal fit‑out and M&E coordination/oversight.
  • Demonstrable experience managing multiple subcontract packages simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of construction sequencing, design coordination, and fit‑out methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client‑facing skills.
Preferred
  • Experience on higher‑education or public‑sector buildings.
  • Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND, degree, or trade background).
  • SMSTS, CSCS (Manager level), and First Aid certification.
