Job summary

A support service provider is looking for an Outreach Support Worker to support a 7-year-old boy in the North East of England. This role involves engaging with the child in various fun and adventurous activities while providing emotional support. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children with trauma and will be able to promote positive self-esteem. This position requires a full UK driving license and access to a personal car. It's a chance to make a meaningful difference in a young boy's life.

Job Description

Outreach Support Worker required to support a 7 year old boy who lives in the Sherburn area of Durham. The child you would be supporting is a bright, cheeky, and energetic 7‑year‑old who thrives on 1:1 attention and loves activities such as climbing, trampolining, swimming and trips to the beach. He needs additional support and reassurance due to social, emotional and mental health needs linked to early childhood trauma.

Hours / Wage – 9.5 hours per day (8.30 am – 6 pm) £13 per hour.

Proposed dates – 29th and 30th December, 2nd, 5th and 6th January. More hours may be available during future school holidays.

Duties
  • Trips on planned activities/days out such as Clip’n’Climb, swimming, cinema.
  • Encouraging his adventurous spirit and helping him try new things in a safe way.
  • Supporting his regulation through movement, calm reassurance and practical strategies.
  • Building a trusting positive relationship where he can feel safe, valued and understood.
Additional Requirements/Information
  • Have experience supporting children with trauma, SEMH needs or SEND.
  • Be trauma informed and understand the impact of early childhood adversity.
  • Use a patient, firm but fair approach that provides structure and consistency.
  • Be active, playful, and willing to join in with adventurous activities.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging self‑esteem and resilience.
  • Be calm, reassuring, and able to manage challenges with empathy.
  • Will hold a driving licence and have access to a car for outings.
  • Enhanced DBS will be required – employer will cover the cost.
